Using AD-PWR

Prev Next

AD-PWR has two basic workflows: Enrollment and Password Reset.

To help a user find the AD-PWR enrollment website, Admins can send a link to the AD-PWR enrollment page to the user via email and then the user would simply click on this link to begin the process.

A user may enroll in AD-PWR as many times as they like. Each time they enroll, the previous enrollment is overwritten with the new enrollment.

Example
If a user enrolls, but later decides that they want to change their security questions and answers, they would just need to re-enroll. The old questions and answers will be replaced by the new questions and answers.

Requirements

  • Users must first enroll in AD-PWR before they can attempt to reset their password with AD-PWR.
  • Users must know their Active Directory username and password in order to enroll.

Enrolling in AD-PWR

  1. Launch AD-PWR from a web browser by going to the AD-PWR site URL.

  2. AD-PWR will prompt for your Active Directory username and password. Enter these into the fields provided, then click the Continue button.

    • Note: The username must be in the "username" format, not the UPN ("username@domain.com") or SAM account name ("domain\username").

  3. You will be presented with a list of ten security questions. Select three and click the Continue button.

  4. Answer all three of your chosen questions. When finished, click the Continue button.

    ℹ️ Answer Requirements
    • The answer must be longer than three (3) characters.
    • The answer must not contain all of the same character.
    • The answer must not be the same as the question.
    • Each answer must be unique

You will receive a message that you have successfully enrolled in AD-PWR and can now use AD-PWR to reset your password if it is ever forgotten.

Resetting A Password Using AD-PWR

  1. Launch AD-PWR from a web browser by going to the AD-PWR site URL.

  2. AD-PWR will prompt for your Active Directory username and password. Enter these into the fields provided, then click the Continue button.

  3. You will be presented with your security questions, one at a time. Upon answering any one of your questions correctly, you will be taken to the next step in the password reset workflow.

    Example
If you answer Question 1 incorrectly, but answer Question 2 correctly, you will be taken to the password reset page. This pattern also applies to if you answer Questions 1 and 2 incorrectly, but answer Question 3 correctly, you will move onto the password reset.

    Incorrect Answers

If you fail to answer all three of the security questions correctly, you will receive a message that you are unable to use AD-PWR to reset your password. You will not be able to use AD-PWR to reset your password for 24 hours and your domain user account will become locked.

  4. At the next screen, you will be able to enter and confirm your new password.

    • Note: The passwords must match and meet domain password requirements. In this release AD-PWR does not present the domain password requirements to the user.

  5. If you have entered a valid new password, then the password is changed for your domain user account.

    • Note: If the domain account is locked it will become unlocked.
