New Encryption Keys

Lynx 1.5 and newer uses a different encryption key than previous versions. Because of this, existing Lynx 1.4 or older database data cannot be decrypted by Lynx 1.6 or newer.

What this means for users
After a Lynx upgrade to 1.6 or newer, users will not need to re-register their cards, but will be prompted for their password the first time they tap in. Afterwards, tap-in workflows will continue to function as before.

Backup the Lynx Settings

1.6 or newer

Upgrades from Lynx 1.6 or newer versions maintain server configurations and no longer require you to make notes of previous settings.

1.5 or older

When upgrading from an older version of Lynx–any version of 1.5 or older–you will need to re-apply the settings that you had previously configured. This is because the upgrade to Lynx 1.6.0 will not preserve the previous settings.

Before the uninstallation and upgrade process, take note of all of your current settings. These can be found in the Lynx Administrator tool under the Settings tab on the left-hand side.

To re-apply your previous settings after an upgrade, log back into the Lynx Administrator tool and return to the Settings tab. Go through each of the Settings tab's sections and edit them to match your previous configuration.

Upgrade

From 1.6 or newer

To upgrade from any version of Lynx 1.6 or 1.7, all that's required is to run your Lynx Server installer.

From 1.5 or older

Older versions of Lynx require an uninstallation before installing 1.6 or newer.

  1. Uninstall the previous version of Lynx by using the Windows “Programs and Features” app (Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features).

🛑 Do not use the Windows “Apps & features” app because it will cause an error when trying to uninstall Lynx.
  2. Locate the RemoveServiceAndFolder.ps1 file in the package that contains your Lynx version deliverables.

  3. Right-click the RemoveServiceAndFolder.ps1 file to run as an administrator or run it from an elevated PowerShell.

  4. After the script completes, you'll be able to install your new Lynx version. See our Lynx Installation doc for more information.
