Badge Reader is Not Processing Badges After Upgrading to Windows 10 v.1809
PROBLEM BEHAVIOR
After upgrading to Windows 10 v1809, the badge reader is no longer processing badge taps.
EXPECTED BEHAVIOR
When a user taps their badge, they should be logged in normally.
AFFECTS:
XA 4.11.4 and higher running on Windows 10 v1809.
CONFIRMATION:
You can confirm this is a problem by downloading, installing, and running the pcProxConfig utility from rfideas:
- Download, install and run the pcProxConfig utility from RFIDEAS: https://www.rfideas.com/support/tools/downloads
- Run the utility. No badge reader is recognized.
ROOT CAUSE: Microsoft Bug
There is a bug in the 1809 version of Windows 10 that renders RFIDeas card readers non-functional. This bug is only present in the 1809 version of Windows 10, no other Windows versions are affected (as far as we have heard). The problem is identified by the card reader being seen by the Windows device manager and will beep when a car is tapped, but nothing happens in reaction to the beep.
RESOLUTION
Install KB4482887, which resolves the issue.
